It is 8:00am xmas day down here in New Zealand. We have a special day planned with family, including our children and grandchildren.
It was so nice to have our daughter return home from living overseas for 5 years and bring back with her our beautiful grandaughter.
We have from our son's family, Hayley (13yrs), Isabelle (3yrs) and from our daughter's family, Isla (4mths); also my wife's sister and her family and their childrens partners as well..
Xmas is a special time to spend with family and we wish a happy day to all of our friends from AATraders.
Thanks to PJ for all of his hard work on the new coding, Tarnus for being 'sherrif' in the games and all of the players that we have 'run' into over the year.
Merry Xmas to All.

Our daughter did us proud and 'produced' an 8lb 4oz daughter, Isla born 4:25 18th Aug in London.
Mother and baby are fine, father is still recovering.
We are looking forward to nov as they will come home after being away for about 5 years.
Virtual cigars are passed out to all.....

In holiday mode at present. Time to spend time with family and friends.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all.
Check out my son's new toy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzS0T-iAs3A This is me hanging on to camera and boat has we 'cruise' up a small creek. This is a steel hull jet boat that he built from out of his head, no plans. Powered by a 4.1L Ford 6cyl through a 2 stage jet unit.
I have been fishing for Trout on one of our local lakes when the weather has been right. Very warm here at present, up to 28C during the day.
I am back in the new Main game, so be nice to me.

Special Tournament, signups open.
You must have a profile, single player teams, no bounties, no newbie nice. You will start with an Endeavour and 100 Genesis Torps, they will cost 50 Bill to replace so use wisely. Yes, you could throw a ship hulls planet. If you loose your ship, you will loose your Genesis Torps, so go careful at the start.
Admin will always have the final say.
No multi accounts, if players are using the same computer, then they must contact me BEFORE signing up. Multi IP's , all payers will be removed before the game starts.
Genesis Torps will be added to your ship prior to game start.
Check the main page for start and finish times.
Keep the shoutbox clean, this is a 'FUN' Tournament for all.

The latest code is now out and game is up and running. Artifacts needed tweaking but all is running now.
All welcome to join.....

I have setup a new game as requested from my students (and AB).
Please can we have a game with clean language as students are often in class when playing (when the teacher allows this).
All players are welcome to join.
I am also looking at the possibility of a Tournament, but waiting for the next release or patches as per the Main Game (Hint, hint PJ).
Post Date: Feb 9, 2009 - 12:22 am
New Version 0.31 game is now opened.
I will also start thinking about running a Tournament. Discussion will be required to help work out what type of Tournament.
Teams, invite or captains pick?
Random pick team by admin?

I am now a grandfather.
My son and daughterinlaw have just had a baby girl. This is our first grandchild and it feels sooo neat.
They don't live in our town and hopefully we will see them in the morning.

Thanks to all of the players and now to move on to what you would like for the next tournament.

I have had a minor stroke and I am out of action for a bit. Docs say that I should have a full recovery. I am home for a couple of hours and thought that I had better post a quick note.
Not sure when they will discharge as I have very high blood pressure and that is causing big problems. I have no energy and can only move very slowly. Speech is OK, just no get up and go.

Guys/Gals, DS has just said it, "This is a Game". Enjoy.play it as that.
Yes there is and will be problems with the code, yes some will take advantage from that. There will come a time when the code is better and we will have tournaments up and running.
Time then to sort out the "real' players.
We can all read the news, shouts and blogs and see who has done what to who, time to move on and hope that the new reset will happen soon.
I wonder just what year the 4th Jan that PJ was talking about will be in?
(sorry PJ, just a quiet little dig)
Cheers and Happy New Year.
Post Date: Jan 6, 2006 - 2:46 pm
I thought that it was time for me to post something.
You all may have noticed a few more players on from NZ (Kiwi's), they are students from my school and have a lot to learn about the game, so be nice, please.
To those that have helped them, thanks.
I will be like most, waiting for the next reset with auto trades so that we can learn another part about this new code.
Having shipyards on planets puts a different slant on the game and I can see that we will need a LARGE cargo ship to move our fleets from 1 sector/planet to another.
At present you can be in one part of the universe working with your present ship and find that you need to swap into another but that ship is over on the other side of the galaxy, so off you trot to get it.
Would we be able to upgrade our ships so that we can call them on auto-pilot to where we need them. They would still take a number of turns for this to happen, but it could mean that you would not need to travel, but continue on with the job inhand while your next ship travels to you. They would be open to attack if spotted out in space.
I also like the idea of the Stock Market, this gives another twist to the game.
PJ and Tarnus keep all those ideas coming........
Post Date: Nov 20, 2005 - 10:44 pm
Thanks to PJ and Tarnus we now have some of the new code to play with. We have just and the 1st reset which has ironed out a few bugs and no dought we will find more for them to resolve.
There are no auto trade routes at present so that part has to be done the old fashion way. :eek
Just grab your shopping cart (ship) and wander from aisle to aisle in the super market (universe) picking up and putting down things as you travel (trade).
Also as an added twist each port trades quite different so there is no working between an ore port and a goods port because they might not trade with each other. I have a 3 way trade going at present, sell goods to an energy port; sell energy to an ore port; sell ore to a goods port then back to the energy port. No auto so it does take time to gather in those trading credits.
Planets also produce slightly different amounts of product +/- 100% so again no just setting up the standard production rates, you need to think and set high to start and then drop back down till you stay on the positive gain.
Colonist need to be bought from a colonist port, not an upgrade, so watch where you create your planets.
Buying ships, another change......
You must have your own planet to store and purchase ships. You also need to link to an upgrades port so that you can upgrade your new ship before you venture out into space. Also drop in to a devices port to add your escape pod, mine deflectors etc.
So to those yet to venture into the new world, come on in and join the fun, tread softly and slowly and you just might survive until the next reset.
Thanks to our great developers, awsume work. :cool

Well after a little hick up or two the new hosting seems to be working OK.
We could do with a few more players to put some pressure on the server to test before I look at another tournament.
Also Mr Happy (The Donald) needs to be put in his place which isn't top place.
Some of the minor players should look at forming a team to put some pressure on him.
How about Big verses the rest.........
An Invitaion Team verses Big......
Big verses Big........
Just some food for thought......
Post Date: Aug 24, 2005 - 4:13 am
I have set up a new game at:
I would like some players to help with the testing, please.
The settings are tournament/fast with newbie nice in place.
As this is a test, the game might not last long.
I need to work on getting something worked out for when PJ fires .30 out for us. :-)
Thanks Guys and Gals.......
Post Date: Aug 5, 2005 - 6:30 pm
I will not be running any more games as everytime I think I have a good server working, I end up having to pull the game because I am overloading the servers.
I have enjoyed this part of the game, but sadly it has to stop.
Sorry to all the players and the developers, Alf

Just a heads up to players:
We do have a number of husband and wife players as well as brothers etc playing that live at the same house.
If more than one family member wishes to play then they must get in touch with the game admin before signing up and ask if that is possible. That way it can be announced to the rest of the players if there seems to be an issue. Note: BEFORE signing up is the key.
This also goes for tournaments that I and others run. If you are caught out, then depending on the game, both players could be removed. I have had to question a number of players in past tournaments about this issue.
This is just so that players are aware that, yes we do allow multi players on one IP address.
The 3 player team tournament is progressing and Big's team is in a commanding lead. It will be very interesting once we get the new code to see how certain players will cope. As game admins we will be able to limit/control players online time. :-)
I am slowly climbing back up to the top 20 in the main after being hit a number of times in some of my sectors as well as losing my Battleship.
At long last I have Broadband at home and hopefuly I might fare a little better in the fights as the lag should not affect me so much.
I just need some easy targets to start with. :-)
Stay safe all. L8r

3 Player Team Tournament - teams will be randomly created after signups are closed.........
All players must be linked to their profiles.
If you leave your team, you are out of the game.
http://aatradet.websnz.net is were you sign up.
I can't access the forum at present (been like that for 2 days now), all I get is a page of gobbly code???? This is from work, home is ok.
NOTE: Please only signup if you intend following the rules and playing. Last game there were a number of no shows, players who signed up but did not not play.

I am still managing to stay up in the top 10 on the main. Over the last couple of days it has been a bit roller coaster as my poor little battle ship has taken some damage.
But I have been able to rebuild it, better and stronger than before.
I have made some errors in judgement, hence the damage, but I am learning.
I don't know how some of the others feel, but sometimes it can be difficult to log into the game even with the limit increased to 15.
I am also thinking of starting another tournament, teams, but what??????
Post Date: Jun 21, 2005 - 6:07 pm
Well that was a few tough days.... I had just got back into the new Main server, teamed up with my mate Darksoul and somebody pulled the plug. Thanks to PJ and Tarnus for putting in the fresh set of batteries and I hope that these ones will hold a longer charge. :-)
The Draft is progressing but, those DD's have a little hold on things. I did suggest to Big that they went on a holiday for a few days to give the rest a chance, but looks like they will not accept the challenge. :-(
I hope PJ has been able to work on the new version, because I think we all could do with a new challenge. Like learning how to play the new version.
From an Admin view, I can't wait because of some of the automation.
I also think that in the tournaments we will be able to control things better so that certain players will not be able to get runaway scores.
Till L8r, cheers
Post Date: May 19, 2005 - 11:47 pm
Well, we managed to get the Draft Tournament restarted this morning. I have been keeping an eye on things and the players seem to be happy with how things are now working.
There has been a bit of movement on the rankings now as players come online and start playing the game.
I would suggest that teams chase up players that have not logged in for sometime. I have e-mailed all players about the restart. I still think that the teams are balanced, they just need to get players on to boost up their team scores.
The Main has been reset since the problems from the weekend and players were pretty quick on signing up again. I would think that the rankings will be a little different now that a lot of players have gain more skills.
After the hicups that we have had, I am look forward to the new code coming out so that I can spend some time 'playing' instead of organising games.
Don't worry, I will get new Tournaments up and running as soon as we think that the new code is stable enough to play.
Good Luck to the Draft Teams.
Post Date: May 10, 2005 - 7:33 pm
Just a heads up to all.
The Draft was completed, but a day late. With the main server being moved, communication between us become a minor problem.
The Captains are now working through their trades. They will start inviting the team members very soon, I am sure.
Langel, what ever team you are on will be cool, and you will still need to toe the line. :-)
I don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet, (I might need it for food later), but I have seen the draft lists and I think the teams are pretty balanced.
All players please give your Captain every bit of support that you can. 16 a side is going to take a lot of work. As I have said, the best 'Team' will win. Any team that relies just on their 'gun' player will have problems.
I am still looking for a start this weekend, and players keep checking into the game for your team invite.
Post Date: May 3, 2005 - 2:31 am
I have changed the new Tournament to a draft style because of what would be involved to run a true/fair nations tournament.
All are welcome to sign up
but you must be linked to your profile.
Draft means that the Captains will take turns at choosing each team player from those that are signed up to the game. By being linked to your profile, gives the Captains a chance to view your playing style and work on creating their dream list. The quicker players sign up, the more time captains will have to try and sort out their lists.
At this stage I like The Donald's choice for Captains:
so, if there are not too many disagreements, let's make them our 4 Captains.
Langel, check the forum, I have tried to answer you planet question. :-)
And on finishing, we are all human (I think) and therefore can be very different to each other, both in looks and in what we think as well as playing styles in these games. Because of that we don't always agree on some things, again that is our right.
AATraders is a very good game, for playing and having fun and for meeting new players, don't let us loose that sight.
Post Date: Apr 18, 2005 - 9:29 pm
Short and Sweet.
OK Tarnus, Draft it is.......
Signups now open.........
More info on main page.
Do you think we could race PJ and finish this before he has the new version out????? :-)
Post Date: Apr 16, 2005 - 2:31 am
From talk in the forums I thought I would move on with the idea of an All Nations Tournament. PJ has made some good comments which I have also taken onboard.
Check out http://www.websnz.com/aatrade/nations.php where you can read a bit about the propsed game. Interested players can sign up if they wish to play.
Please use your AATrader Profile Name as like all tournaments you must be linked to your profile.
Once we start getting signups, I will work out time frames for the games.
The more players, the better the game.
The final's will be a singles game, 1 from each nation.
Post Date: Mar 22, 2005 - 4:23 pm
Invitation Tournamnet has now ended with AK5intoe declared the Winner. T would like to thank all that took part in this process, sometimes with problems, but very pleased to see that we got through to a good conclusion.
Now for the 'Burning Question'. What sort of Tournament should we have next?
Teams, singles, draft etc?????
I am open to suggestions from all, try and use the 'Chat' room for discussing ideas.
I look forward to your suggestions.
http://www.websnz.net/aat22 is a game to test my new host. Very good starting credits as a boost. :-)
Post Date: Mar 13, 2005 - 1:09 pm
Just a heads up on what I am doing.
Bandwidth is always an issue and sorry, but I got hit last month for going over my quota. I am now looking for an improved host and need help in checking out their services.
1st one I tried did not meet my needs, so on to No2.
I have registered another Domain: websnz.net so that I can get things working before transfering my old sites.
Please test out for me: http://aatrade.websnz.net a version .22 game.
Let me know of any major issues, please. And yes 3D map works :-)
Invitation Tournament is winding down to a finish with some changes happening in the top ranks. Always battle to the end, you might surprise your self in how well you do.
In the main game, I am slowly, (very slowly) moving up towards the top 20, 27th at present. Not bad considering the small amount of time that I play.
Cheers for now, and please be nice to PJ so that he can get ver .25 out soon. :-)
Post Date: Mar 6, 2005 - 9:42 pm
What a shame that the game gets abused by players that make use of bugs as exploits. They then complain when they are found out.
As an Admin of most of the Tournaments I try to provide an even playing field for all players. I have a lot of discussion behind the scenes with some players when they suspect that players are not playing fair. Sometimes it can be hard to work out what they are exploiting and how to stop/fix the bug.
In the past we have lost some very good players because they thought there was some 'cheating' and we could not prove it at the time.
Thanks to PJ and Tarnus we have a nice piece of code that will help us provide an even playing field for all.
Remember that AATraders is under development, it is not bug free and the developers want us to report any bugs/problems/exploits to them as soon as possible so that it can be fixed.
My challenge to all is to stop using the bugs to your advantage and report them no matter how minor they are.
This game is for our enjoyment, both as Admins and players.
Invitation Finals, signups will start in 2 days, please check http://images.skidcity.com/top20.jpg the list before signing up as it is by Invitation only.

Yes, I have spoken to players via the shoutbox/messages about attitude/cheating/exploits.
Yes, patches are in place, but there still could be bugs that need to be passed on to admin as soon as they are found.
Any exploit of a bug, you are out of here.
Some players have a reputation of exploiting and need to regain respect from players. Do that by playing fairly, report any bug/problem immeadiatly and NO slanging other players. You have created your reputation, you need to do the work to lose the bad rep.
This is a GAME, it is for fun, please play the game that way.
If you think there is a problem, then contact the admin of the game, in this case email@example.com will find me.
Please provide me with as much info as you can.
Thanks, now back to the Game and may the 'Best' player win.

I had to leave abruptly from the game yesterday when I found out that my son had damaged his hand in a mincer. He is a butcher and is in the process of setting up his own business. He was processing mince in a large mincer when his hand was caught and he got the fingers 'minced'.
After a very painful night in hospital he is being operated on this morning. They need to 'trim' his left index finger back down to the first joint and do some minor repair work to 2 other fingers.
This will mean a lot of time off work, just when his business was starting to get a good name. We all hope that he will be able to keep the business afloat until he is able to go back to work.
I hope that the Tournement and Trials games are progressing OK. Be nice to each other, remember it is only a game.

Semi Finals has now started, looks like 17 out of 53 invites showed up for the start. GOOD LUCK to those players.
Some uninvited players were 'killed off'.
AK5intoe is Col Darby and he is having trouble linking to his profile and I have allowed him to continue.
Trials game is under way, look forward to reading Big's blog. Mate, we all could do with some real good game tips.
I have left the logons open so if others want to jump in, please do.
Post Date: Feb 4, 2005 - 1:17 pm
Well, I have started again in the main game. I sneaked in a week ago and I am up to 83rd place and rising. I have a different alias, see who can pick it. :-)
I am very grateful to the players who us Dignataries that like to embezel, very good little boosts I have been receiving.
There are some very good trade routes to be found out there, so any one thinking that it is too late to join, do try the game.
I see we still get players begging for credits, they can be generated easily by selecting good trade routes. For ongoing credits get some good credit planets started. You don't even have to create them because of the huge amount of tiny Indys that are out there.
Thanks PJ for the new look, I like it.

First to my Gumby's Gang (II) at the main server. Sorry Guys and Dolls, life down under has been hetic. I got annoyed with my 56k link and I am still working on getting a 256k link in the near future. (please keep fingers and toes crossed for me).
I also have a big project on at school over the xmas break. I at long last was allowed to upgrade my computer rooms. 84 new tables and chairs, off course they are kitset so I have to assembly them all and carry them up 2 flights of stairs, (phew, my old body is not liking all this work).
The rooms have been painted and new capert as well as new pin boards on the walls.
40 new computers (2nd hand P3 1000's, we are a very poor school) and a new Internet connection which means all computers had to be reconfigured.
I still have many hours of work to go to get all ready before school starts.
I may be quiet for a little bit longer, But, I will be back.
I also have spotted the counter and I hope it is what I think it is........ The new revamped version, yaaaaaa!!!!!
Please keep a set warm for me and I will catch all of you very soon.
Post Date: Jan 14, 2005 - 4:54 pm
Sorry, I have not much time at present for the game, RL things.
I just need a bit of time, school work is hectic, end of year stuff, etc.
The 3 Player Tournament is now over and I hope all had fun, remember it is only a game. Thanks to all for making it an easy game to admin.
Some players can take things to heart a bit much when others use the shoutbox and blogs to vent some of their thoughts.
Take the time and use 'The ThunderDome' to sort out some of your differences.
I am waiting with baited breath for ver .25 and hope that PJ and Tarnus can get something out before Xmas. :-) Alf is singing 'Here comes Santa Claus'.
For me, I have to stay cool till after school.
Post Date: Nov 21, 2004 - 3:39 pm
Just a heads up to all.
It has been a busy time for me over the last 2 weeks. School for the seniors was winding down and I was heavly involved with the prize giving services as well as managing all of the school reports. We had a number of database problems, which are still on going.
And to top it off, my home computer packed a sad. I have had a lot of good advise from the chat room and tracked it down to a couple (yes 2) faulty CD drives as well as my midi keyboard causing a problem.
I have spent $$ on a new MthBrd, CPU, Ram when it looks like I did not need to. :-(
The CD's would somehow corupt my hard drives, spent hours with different drives, partioning software, etc trying to get a clean install, failed every time. We then starting getting problems reading the CD's and thought hang on, tried one from a friend and problems solved.
By that stage I had the computer stripped down with just the essentials and thought cool all is well. When I plugged all of my devices back in, troubles started again, and I thought had to start trying to work out what was wrong.
It was the Midi keyboard, it is a simple USB controled device that I leave plugged in but turned off. XP and 98 had trouble every time I turned on the computer and I could not access any drives. I have now left it unplugged until I use it, problem solved.
Anyway, the weekend is now over and it is back to work and I am stuffed from all of my troubles.
I hope the Tournament has behaved and I will catch up with all in the Chat Room soon.

There does not seem to be enough hours in the day to do all that I would like.
My team got hit in the main game and lost a key base (200 mill fighters), I think I came online just after it had happened and I could not stay on at that time.
School is keeping me busy, end of year stuff, reports, exams, etc.
My son has also started up his own business and of course it is, Dad can you do this for me, it won't take you long, ta. I have created all his business cards, flyers etc and website. So check out: http://www.homekills.co.nz
1on1 games now have 3 set up and we are waiting for more challenges. Modified a rule so that you can only challenge the player directly above you. (Max ran a poll).
Challenge forms are set up at the games.
Main Tournament is starting to get a few signups, but still players are not linking to their profiles. It is much better than it has been and I thank you for that.
Don't forget to set up your teams (1 to 3 players) and discuss your strategy before the game starts. The early bird catches the worm ( or should I say players/planets).
That is all for now, Cheers
Post Date: Nov 1, 2004 - 1:15 pm
Singles Tournament is now over, with Cross (Phaser) coming out on top. Yes as it seems with these games, a bit of discusions over some 'Player Tactics'.
Next Tournament will be held on my server and looks as if it will be 3 player teams. Please vote at the main forum for your choice, ta.
Again all players must have and be linked to their Profile. This always seems to be a problem. We have to remove so many players before the start and then we get cries of 'I did not know we needed to have a profile'.
All Tournaments will require players linked to profiles.
Another thing, please check rules, settings etc and only sign up if you agree and will play.
Prior to signups, please contribute through the forums on any suggestions for these games, thanks.
More at http://aatraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2357
I have started to create a list of the top players with help from player suggestions. This will be the start of the '1 on 1' Challenge Series. More details are in the forum and please post your choice of the top players so that we get a 'Players Choice' rankings list.
More at http://aatraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2335
As always, check Blogs and Forums and also please contribute to these discussions so that we can try to generate games / tournaments to suit most players.
Post Date: Oct 24, 2004 - 8:26 pm
Great to see all the players signing up (over 50 now). Don't forget setting up and linking to your Profile. I know I sound like an 'Old Woman' about it, but there are still too many players without profiles.
We want this to be the start of 'The Pro-Am' which will be a series of Tournaments, Singles, Doubles and Team, etc to see who is the 'Greatest Of Them All'. Therefore we would like as many as possible in this first game.
I will set up a Scoring System across all the games, therefore you will need to play in all to appear on "The List'.
Please do not miss out on this chance.
Remember: Escape Pod, EWD's and Mine Deflectors.
Do not go directly to and from your base, always travel via SOL (sector 1).
Trade, upgrade, trade, upgrade, use your turns wisely.
Do not over trade the ports, look for the best prices.
Do not sleep/go off line while in your best/most expensive ship, sleep in 'El Cheapo'.
Form alliances with some players at the start, then once you are settled, let every player go for it.
Form a 1 person Team so that you have the Team Forum to keep notes.
And most important, stay calm, breathe now and then, and have lots of fun.
Good LUck to All and may the best player win....
Post Date: Oct 6, 2004 - 5:37 pm
Just another 'Heads Up' for the Tournament. Check the forum for updates. I would like to start it this weekend as the major seem to go for the 'Singles'. Any problem with the earlier start, post in forum, thanks.
1. Once the game starts no new players will be allowed.
2. There are NO BOUNTIES. Any player can attack any other player or planet irrespective of their rank. So be careful of the big guys when they appear, remember, pods, EWD and mine deflectors.
3. ALL PLAYERS MUST HAVE PROFILES, or they will be purged 1/2 hr before the game starts, no exceptions...period!!!
4. If you are killed in an accident and not cloned. Your out of the game.
Some need to hurry and get profiles sorted.
Good Luck to All, remember to have fun.....

Well, I have put my mouth where my foot is???
Check the forum, there is a poll started for the new Tournament, please check it out and vote. My suggestion is for a single player game, but that is easy for me because I will be running the game and not playing.
Reason for single player is we need a change from the last few and quick to get up and running.
Poll will run for 1 week, then game settings/rules will be posted and sign ups started.
If single player, then signups will run for a week then game on. If team based then signups/team creation will take longer.
So, please go and vote and post your choices.

Well, I read about PJ giving the Main game a boost because of the delays in the new code coming out. So, let's jump in and see what can happen, signed up with a new name. I have been playing for about 3 or so weeks and have made it up to 21st place with no major problems, so decided to come out of the closet, so to speak. Trading made a lot of credits to start, then off to get some planets started. I notice that the game does not credit you with planet captures, yes I have taken some. It also has taged me as 'evil' and as most know, I am not. :-)
If any of the teams are looking for a new player, let me know.
I am also looking forward to the new Beta game, thanks PJ.
Cheers for now.

Well, tourney is nearly over, just a few hours to go. I know a number of people will be / are disappointed on our performance. As captain I accept full responsibility for that. Some decisions and lack of decisions at crucial times affected us and made it difficult to get back into the game.
For the players in my team that stayed with us to the end, thank you. You all performed extremely well.
Wild Angel worked brilliantly as my 2IC and I thank you for that. Young Vicious, what a player. Watch out for him, this was his first Team Tournament and he has learnt heaps and performed brilliant. He used his ears, in other words he listened. A major part of communication is the ability to listen. V did that, he got kicked a few times, like we all did, but he was back in there ready to go again. He used the chat room, MSN what ever it took to talk to the team?s key players. Well Done, V.
DarkSoul had to leave us for a few days, we got hit again and he ended up being the major loser from that attack, but when he could he was back into the game.
Uncas gave excellent support to the team and again got hurt a number of times from attacks, but bounced back again.
As for the players that I kicked off the team, learn from Vicious, don't demand and complain, listen to the advice that was given to you by a number of the team and follow that. If you had, you would have still been in the team.
Poor Veracity and Phoenix, they tried and through no fault of their own, just could not get up the score board, I thank you for trying and being part of the team.
To the other teams, great game. Captains, great job.
Again to my crew, thank you for the huge effort that you put in.
"Alf's Angels" will be back.........

Well, new Draft Tourney will be starting soon. We have had a few teething problems trying to set up an even playing field for all. Constructive criticism is fine but do and try and see things from the Captains / Admins side sometimes.
I would suggest that a few more players put their hands up and have a go as a Captain, it is fun and all are a good bunch. You will learn heaps and make a few more friends.
Anyway on with where things are at present. Draft is complete and the last bit of trading is nearly done. Please check in to the game and see what team you are on. Check any messages and in the Team Forums for any information regarding team game play.
Players remember that this is a 'Team Tourney', work as a team and you all will benefit, try and work on your own and the team will suffer.
New players (less experienced) will get a lot of help from the Top Guns if they follow with the Team Game Plan.
Game is set to start in a couple of days and that is to allow the teams to get in place their strategy. Please be patient while this happens and again check in often to the game.
There also are set up Chat Rooms for all the Teams and the Captains will advise their team of procedures for them. They are an invaluable tool for Team Play, please use them.
Good luck to the fellow Captains and their teams, remember it is only a game, have a lot of fun, use the shout box but be respectful to all.

Well another Tourney is finished and the next is working it's way into the starting blocks. Before I move onto the last tourney, I thought that I should make a brief comment of my thoughts on Tournemants.
Regardless of your experience or playing style, I recommend all to at least have a go in a tourney. You will meet a lot of neat people and make new friends. You will see players that you have played against in the past in a different light. You will gain a lot of experience and also pass on ideas to other players. You do not have to play all of the time. If in a team, work with them on when you can be online.
It is a great game, it is a fun game, the players are fun people, Please enjoy life as it can be very short. Cheers.
DarkSoul and I agreed to join up and have a go. (Met DS in last tourney). We thought that our time zone difference could help us, which it did. We were able to be on at the same time to talk stratergy, then because of the difference, we also were on at different times.
I was able to get a good start, even with my connection problems(connection problems plagued me throught out the tourney) and get a sector established and some extra credits for DS so that when he came on he could do a better upgrade.
DS found out that by having heaps of cols on planets this would give us a better credit production. I stayed with a Colombus with large hull for planet creation and worked up to getting a Heavy Munition for laying Def.
The rankings were moving around a bit over the first few days as players/teams started trying to establish them selves. DS and I left messages for each other when we logged off on game plan ideas as well as using the Team Forum. We also used MSN to have more detailed discussions.
We were very lucky that our bases were not discoveried and we could put our effort into tweaking planets. Too many planets can take a lot of work to get any credit gains. As each of us was online we could look after both of our groups of planets to get the most from producing credits. (I also have another idea which I will try in the next tourney)
Our plan was to work DS up into 'Attack Mode' which we did.
I continued to tweak planets and look after sectors with help from DS.
I also had many problems with my connection to the net. I have 2 different ISP's as well as Broadband at work and they all gave problems. NZ as only one company that owns the whole of the network, so we have no other options with access.
Poor DS got hit a number of times (3 lives lost I think), but also took out 7 players.
Extra credits went into an Excelsisor that I was building up for the big attack. It came out a couple of times, but I was a bit wary as in an earlier game, I had creating a nice new 'Battle Ship' and got hit without knowing it and ended up back at SOL in a little Poineer wondering what happened.
I also got a nasty head cold in the last few days which slowed down my game time. I was pleased that we hung on to 2 nd place, but was a little dissapointed the Big left when he did. A number of teams/players where planning on a 'big' attack the next day.
Thanks to DarkSoul (a great Team Mate) and to all the other players for lots of fun and a good clean game. Cheers Alf.

Gee I wish NZ had a reliable Internet connection. Tourney starts, I'm logged in trying to upgrade ship and it kept dropping the darn connection. I have a number of ISP's but none could connect me back to tourney. Fingers crossed that I will be able to stay alive. I must have been dropped about 10 times in the first 1 1/2 hrs. Now it is up to my team mate, DarkSoul for the next leg.
Good luck to all......

Fast game at Teo's is being reset. Will run for a 3 week period and more tweaking will be done because of feed back from players. I have incorporated most of PJ's ideas for the next release. (More cols on planets, Planet creation more expensive, but I have increased the rate port prices will increase and slowed the Indy planets a bit)
Langel is looking at the settings for a new Slooowwww Game that will be set up at Teo's. More details as they come to hand.
Check them out at http://www.websnz.com/aatrade/
New 2 player Tourney not far away from starting, please check all the rules before signing up. We want a good clean fight and may the best pair win. (Remember that the Apple of one's eye is the Peach with the best Pear).

Well, I'm pleased to see that my new host seems to be a big improvement over the last. My students at lunch time seem to be enjoying it.
Good also to see some experienced players coming on board, (Langel, come on back and I too have been hit by the flu).
I want to try and set up some good quick games, just run for 2 weeks, small universe, good port prices so that players that can't always put in time over a long game can still have some fun.
Once the next version comes out, I will set up a slower/longer game as well.
Good also to see players signing up on the 2 player/team tourney. Anyone keen to join up with me
Cheers until next time.

Well, I have taken the big step and moved my hosting. I have set up a new Fast Game (2 weeks), 5 SG links plus other tweaks. Check out http://www.websnz.com/aatrade
Check my blog style, of course I had to pick LOTR.
I wonder when the next tourney will be? Guess we have to wait until things have settle a bit after the way the last one ended.

I have been having connection, lag, connectivity problems with my present host. I have set up a test server: http://esc16.midphase.com/~websnz/aatrade/aatradef/ and would like players to give it a go. Please ignore the settings as it is the loading / connection thing that I am interested in. Good starting credits to give you an instant boost with 50 turns per 5 mins.
Thanks to all.

Close off date is fast approaching, then the team draw begins. Looks like there are goig to be over 20 players in each team.
To help the Captains, please try to have some info on your profile about the type of player that you are, Builder, Attacker, Trader etc.
Thanks to Moonraker for his very informative comments that he has added to the players that he knows.
Goodluck to all, Captains as well as team players.

Well, through good luck or bad I am Captain of one of the Draft Tourney Teams. :-D
For those who don't know the type of player that I am, here goes. I am not too agressive / attacking against other players. I like to develop sectors and planets and work on good defence. I can be a bit slow out of the blocks because of this, but I some how manage to survive.
For this Tourney we will need different types of players that will have very clear roles. Examples: Developers, to set up good bases to support the team. Traders, to provide funds in the early part. Defence, work on developing the defence of our bases. And of course Agressors, to kick some butts of the other teams. There will be other roles, but I don't want to give away all of my plans, yet.
Remember you will need to set up Profiles and also if requesting to join our team, tell me the type of player you are.
Good Luck to all Team Captains and players.

Time I started my Blog....
I have been playing around with different PHP/MySQL files over a number of years in my role as a Teacher / Technician at High School.
In searching for these types of programmes I came across AAtrade.
Thought this looks good, joined a couple of games and had a lot of fun.
I then set up a game on my server for my students to try, but they prefered Promisance (another PHP/MySQL game).
I then opened up my server to the rest of the world and got well and truely bitten by the bug. So bad that I have upgraded my service so that I will be able to host different types of AAtrade (tourny, quick game, long running) games.
Because of the brilliant improvements with V.20, I am waiting for the public release before putting my plan into place.
A big plus of this game is the different people / friends that you meet/make from all around the world.
The downer is the time that you spend playing the game.
At this point a big thanks to PJ and Tarnus for the great job that they are doing, keep going fellas, I have enjoyed playing on the Beta and had fun in my first Tourny.
I also know that the next tourny will be so different.
Cheers to all for now....
